Alexa Chung, style guru of the 21st century, says in her adorable book It, “Your lips should always be kissable.” For this reason, I am starting a fun new series called FIVE FAVOURITE. It’s as simple as it sounds–every now and then, I will be listing out five of my favourite products that I like to use for particular beauty and fashion needs. Today we are targeting LIPS. I am one of those people who will pick and rub and bite at my lips if they are chapped and flakey, so you can rest assured that these products have been tried and tested, and I have selected them as my absolute favourites. All of them will leave your lips smooth, hydrated and kissable!! ;)))
1: LUSH Bubblegum Lip Scrub – £5.50
To start, every now and then I will exfoliate my lips with this LUSH Bubblegum Lip Scrub. Surprise, surprise, I started doing this I after I read Alexa Chung’s It, as she has this weird obsession with exfoliating and moisturising and suddenly I found myself wanting to be JUST LIKE HER (jk, but am i jk? u decide). POINT IS, this product actually does wonders for smoothing out my lips and getting rid of any flakey bits of skin. It’s made of all natural ingredients, mostly sugar, so not only is it effective, it is incredibly yumz. It’s a win-win situation.
I just scrub it all over, lick it off, and I’m good to go.
2. L’Occitane Shea Ultra Rich Lip Balm, Certified Organic – £8.50
After I scrub off the nasty, I immediately apply this organic, all-natural shea lip balm from L’Occitane. The two products pair together wonderfully. GUESS WHAT ALEXA CHUNG ALSO SAID–lip balms with all-natural ingredients are the most effective. Maybe this doesn’t come as a surprise to you, but you’d be amazed at how many lip balms and “moisturisers” I have been through, being severely disappointed that yes–they would leave my lips feeling smooth upon application, but give it ten minutes and they were absolutely parched and I had to re-apply a thousand times a day until I had no more product left (u sneaaaky sales ppl). SO. This product is a gem that does not fail me. I squeeze out a teeny blob, apply it all over and voila! I’m set for the day.
3. CHANEL Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour in Adrienne – £36
Ok, now let’s talk lipstick. I. Love. Lipsticks. And the Rouge Coco line by Chanel has got to be one of my favourites because not only are the colours beautiful, but it’s ultra hydrating! Say goodbye to crappy lipsticks that shrivel up your lips and make them look nasty. I especially love this nude colour called Adrienne, partly because I took this cute little quiz that recommended it to me so I felt that it was just meant to be, but also because it’s matches my natural lip colour and effortlessly brightens it. It’s the perfect no make-up make-up, everyday, go-to product (that was a lot of hyphens). Also, it’s Chanel.
4. MAC Lipstick in Brave – £15.50
For days when I want a flush of colour, but nothing too dramatic, I reach for MAC Brave. This mid-toned pink gives my lips a deeper hue for a more sophisticated, gentle look. It’s also an amazing everyday lipstick and, like all MAC lipsticks, is smooth and hydrating. No fussy flakes.
5. NARS Lip Gloss in Baby Doll – £19
Finally, being the #NARSissist that I am, I can’t have a FIVE FAVOURITE cosmetics post without a NARS product. This new shade of lip gloss, called Baby Doll, is the perfect companion for MAC’s Brave lipstick. I love applying Baby Doll over Brave because the tones match amazingly, and it gives a sheer, shiny addition to my lips. Baby Doll also gives wonderful tone and shine to your lips when used alone. An all-round cutesy shade, I highly recommend it as a product that can be used both day and night.
That’s it for my first series of FIVE FAVOURITE :: lip products! I hope this list serves to be a useful resource for you laydiez looking for products that will definitely keep you satisfied. And for any lads who are reading this post, now you know what to get your girlfriend/sister/mum. You’re welcome.
Peace & love to you all, and stay trippy,
